We had NEVER agreed on $30 - they were trying to scam us.

The taxi took us to the hotel, but when we got out, the driver said we had agreed to pay $30 and suddenly the employee was saying the same thing. Another employee arrived by foot and told us it would be forty minutes more! At this point the original employee came back to us and said he found a taxi that would take us for $20 total, which seemed fair (especially if he was tossing in a few more cordobas too) so we agreed. per person! We said no way, and they we would wait for the shuttle. However, he came back with an offer from the taxi driver of $25. The employee told us he could organize transport for us to the hotel. Throughout the wait I phoned all three numbers from their website repeatedly but nobody answered.

By now, we’d been waiting in the hot sun in the park for a full hour. But fifteen minutes later there was no shuttle. One of their employees who was waiting for a ride to work told us that the shuttle would come in five minutes. The shuttle was scheduled to come at 11:30, but hadn’t arrived at noon.

So, I went to the meeting point (the central park) and waited. The website said the time and location of the shuttle, and my hotel in SJDS thought the information on the website was correct. I looked on the hotel’s website and saw they offered day passes for $10, including return transport. And what’s worse is that they top off an unsustainable business model with poor service, especially for day visitors. This hotel markets itself as an eco-lodge (its in their website address!) but in fact, they are anything but.
